Chapter 10 Oracle Grants Auditing

will raise more questions than answers,  due to this ambiguity. However, if the grants auditing is enabled, the act of granting and revoking the privilege will be captured too, and the act can be discovered and explained.

Auditing Grants is a very important part of the security framework applicable to any database, not just those under the HIPAA regulations. In this chapter we learned how to:

  • Record the present privileges granted to the users through a single script that can be run periodically.

  • Record the changes made to these grants using AUDIT functionality, which will produce a track record of the changes.

In the next chapter we will explore the hitherto impossible task of auditing select statements using an Oracle 9i feature called Fine Grained Auditing (FGA).
