Chapter 3 Introducti

on to Oracle Auditing

Date        DDL      Object   Object
of DDL      User     Operatio Type   Name
----------- ------   -------- ------ --------------------
05-21 07:53  MEMBERS ALTER    VIEW   MEMBER_CLAIMS
05-21 09:00  CLAIMS  CREATE   TABLE  CLAIMS
             CLAIMS  CREATE   TABLE  CLAIM_LINES
             CLAIMS  ALTER    TABLE  CLAIM_HEADER
             CLAIMS  ALTER    VIEW   CLAIM_PROVIDERS

In Chapter 9, we will discuss in detail how to set up the triggers to capture the changes. These strategies, however, are not part of the general auditing options of the Oracle database, they must be done outside the framework using triggers on the DDL statements.

Use DDL triggers to capture changes within structures of the database objects. In addition, implement some type of version control system, such as RCS or SCCS, to control the DDL scripts for these objects.

Server Error auditing

Although it may not be strictly necessary to audit the errors encountered by the Oracle server, the recording of this information may provide clues on potential threats. Oracle audits errors through an event named servererror, which triggers a piece of code.  An example will help to clarify.

create or replace trigger
  log_errors_trig
after servererror on database
