Web Services

A Web Service process enables users to make requests across the network or Internet to other servers; for example, web services available on the internet such as zip code lookup, Federal Express package tracking, Amazon book search, and many more.  Creating web service processes is how data from those services is included within other applications.  Web Services are covered in an earlier chapter in this text.

Form Pagination

This type of process is used in a Form region of an application page.  A process of this type is created automatically if the wizard is used to create a Master/Detail form.  However, the Form Pagination process wizard would also be used to provide users the ability to scroll forwards and backwards through records in the table being utilized on any other form.  During the creation of this type of process, the developer will be asked the name(s) of the page item(s) containing the primary key value(s).  The wizard for a Form Pagination process will then create other page items:

  •  2 Buttons:  Next and Previous.

  • 2 Hidden Text Fields:  To hold session state for the next and previous values of the primary key.

  • A Get Next or Previous Primary Key Value Process:  Dynamically obtains the next and previous values.

  • 2 Branches:  To set the page item(s) for the primary key.

This type of process was created automatically by the Create Application in an earlier chapter of this book.  Figure 4.4 shows the buttons created, and the Page Definition is available to view the other objects for reference.

Close Popup Window

This type of process is used to close a popup window and will refresh the application page that opened the popup.
